On Monday, August 12, 2019 in the Kappe Library at 7:00pm, SCI-Arc will host a book launch for Kyong Park’s Imagining Eurasia: Visualizing a Continental History, presented in collaboration with L Nour Editions and GYOPO.
Kyong Park is Professor of Public Culture at the University of California, San Diego (since 2007) and was the founding director of StoreFront for Art and Architecture in New York (1982–98), International Center for Urban Ecology in Detroit (1998–2001), and Centrala Foundation for Future Cities in Rotterdam (2005–06). He was a curator for the Gwangju Biennale in 1997 and the Artistic Director and Chief Curator of the 2010 Anyang Public Art Project in Korea. His solo exhibitions include Kyong Park: New Silk Roads (2009–10) at the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Castilla y León in Spain, and he has participated in group exhibitions at the Kunsthalle in Graz, Deichtorhallen in Hamburg, Kunst Werke in Berlin, and Nam June Paik Art Center in Seoul, and others. He is the editor/author of Urban Ecology: Detroit and Beyond (2005) and Imagining Eurasia: A visualization of a continental history (2019).
GYOPO is a coalition of diasporic Korean artists, curators, writers, cultural producers, and art professionals based in Los Angeles interrogating issues around contemporary art, culture, networks, intersectionality, and social justice through impactful programming and community alliances. http://gyopo.us/
